Your lawn is the first thing someone sees when they pull up to your home. If it's full of weeds or overgrown, someone may think that you don't care too much for your yard and wonder what the inside of your home may look like. It can be difficult to keep up with the lawn, but you can get a lush lawn if you're up to the task. See below for tips on how to get a beautiful green lawn.

Keep It Trimmed

Clip your lawn often to help prevent weeds from taking over your grass. If you allow the grass to get too tall, weeds are more likely to grow in. Soon you'll have more weeds than grass. If you have a lot of weeds, use a mower with a bag to trap the weeds you've clipped to prevent any seedlings from getting spread around and creating more weeds throughout your yard.

Spray Fertilizer

Fertilize your lawn to help encourage the growth of your grass. Fertilizer will give your grass nutrients that it may not already have and encourage growth. Look for fertilizer at your local hardware or lawn care/landscape store.

Spray Weeds

Use a weed killer that is safe for your grass. You can find this type of weed killer in granule form or in a spray that you attach to your garden hose. Apply it to your grass evenly according to the manufacturer's directions. After using this type of weeds killer you may be required to water your lawn often.

Water Your Grass

Don't allow your grass to dry out, as your grass needs water to survive. Weeds though may be able to survive without much water, especially if they have hardier roots. Water your grass in dry weather if you can. Water in the early morning or in the evening when the grass is in the shade. Watering in the sunlight and heat can burn your grass.

Rake Your Grass

Raking your lawn can help de-thatch your lawn, removing some weeds and dead grass to allow for more growth. Rake leaves and other debris from your lawn to keep it clean and to prevent anything from settling into your lawn that can then grow there such as seedlings from flower bushes and other plants. Rake your lawn at least once per month or more often depending on how many trees you have around your lawn.

You can have a beautiful, green, lush lawn, but it's going to take some work on your part. If you just don't have the time to keep up with your lawn, it's time to hire a lawn care company for help with this job. For more information, contact a business such as Schulhoff Tree & Lawn Care, Inc.
